32% of the Products Used in BLS Consumer Price Index Subject to Hedonic Quality Adjustments

A full 32.48% of the items included in the CPI are subject to Hedonic Quality Adjustments; 3% from consumer products and over 29% from housing. With inflation targets in the 2% range, even a small error in estimating Hedonic Quality Regressions could severely bias policymakers’ perceptions of reality.
